Final Week(s)

For the past two weeks or so, we have been pushing to synthesize levels and get them into our game. Frankly, im a little disappointed we did not do this first thing, then overlay our art onto our level designs (instead of the other way around; foolish and time consuming). But as it is, we have lagged behind but have made significant progress none the less. This past week, we crunched over the weekend, and came up with these concepts for levels

Also, as of yesterday, i am in the process of designing menus and buttons for the menus along with Wendy (who is doing the UI programming, god bless her soul) here are a few things i have synthesized

There will be more in the future im sure, but for now these will start us out :)

Update 6: Game Rework

Following the play test last week, we realized that our game will have a lot of issues we need to resolve before we release it. However, I am very confident that we will resolve them before spring break :)

In the meantime, the art team has been grinding out assets for our levels. Here are some hazards we intend to animate for use in the game

Onwards to Beta!

For the past three weeks, our team has decided quite a bit about the direction our game will head.

Most importantly, we decided to craft our levels and how the player progresses similarly to Mario, in that there are 4 different "areas" of the circus, each with a dozen or so levels that need to be beaten in order to progress to the next area (or x out of x need to be beaten to progress). I like this style, it eliminates the need for a super complex story, which we had wanted all along, and instead uses the juice of our mirror mechanic.

We also decided that we would attempt to finish one area of the circus every week, all 12 or however many levels we had, along with it. Very do-able i believe, and hopefully our game will be done before the first week of march with some fierce dedication and constant/consistent work :)

Update 5: pt. 2

From the preliminary sketches, our team was able to generate these bad boys!

Big BIG fan of the colors, turned out really good :) seems like we have become set on our process, now we simply need to start churning out assets and get our story finished. That will be our big challenge this next week; where are we going to take this game??

Update 5: New Game Plan

Upon the review of our first string of assets, we decided to "assembly line" our process, much like in the sense of a comic book. Wes and I became charged with the line style and outline of each asset, Spencer and Jun were tasked with color, and Lexie and Earl became in charge of shading.

Update 4: Update 2 pt. 3 xD

With a now more defined list of what we would need in hand, we developed ourselves a concrete style guide (actually, we did this almost first thing, but its relevance now is shown with our more finalized assets haha) as per our style guide, i generated these fine looking primary assets:

Above are a simple button machine, a crank machine, two platforms, a floating platform (can float vertically and horizontally) and a steam vent (to lift the player into the air)
